5 to 7 years of professional experience in psychological counseling with special emphasis on critical incident stress;
Additional training or experience in a broad range of related fields, such as alcohol/substance abuse, family counseling, stress management, critical incident stress and cross-cultural communication;
Well-developed communication, leadership and team-building skills;
Fluency in written and spoken English;
Knowledge of Pakistan language and culture would be an asset;
International experience and/or professional experience with the United Nations are highly desirable.


The main role of the Senior Field Stress Counselor will be to build and manage a sustainable stress management system in UN Offices in the country, and improve critical incident stress management preparedness of the local UN security system in the case of an emergency.
Under the administrative supervision of the UNDSS Chief Security Advisor, the duties of the Senior Field Stress Counselor are:
To lead the activities of the Stress Counseling Team in UNDSS Pakistan and to supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the activities of the DSS stress counselor.
To develop and implement a critical incident stress management plan for UN Offices in Pakistan, in coordination with the UNDSS HQ Critical Incident Stress Management Unit (CISMU);
To assess continuously and to monitor the determinants of stress in the duty station, and stress levels among UN staff and their dependents in Pakistan.
To provide technical recommendations to UNDSS and UN agency managers in the country, about stress mitigating strategies, decisions and activities.
To implement the UNDSS CISMU Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) on critical incident stress;
To provide direct stress counseling services to UN staff and their dependents.
To travel regularly to UN sub-offices around the country in order to conduct staff psychosocial needs assessments, and to implement preventative and mitigating stress management activities accordingly.
To identify, address and follow up on critical incident stress cases among UN staff and their dependents.
To liaise with local mental health care providers in order to build a network of professionals ready to support UN staff and families in case of a disaster;
To monitor the critical incident stress management program implementation in UN offices across the country, including data collection, analyses and documentation.
To conduct training sessions related to stress management and psychosocial support for UN staff;
To provide training as well as technical support, coordinate and facilitate the activities of the UNDSS Critical Incident Stress Intervention Cell (CISIC) at the country level.
To provide regular written reports on performed activities to the UNDSS Pakistan Chief Security Adviser and CISMU UNDSS HQ
