Five to seven years experience of communications related work. Experience of working with donor funded projects will have an added advantage.
Experience of developing, operationalizing and managing project level advocacy, outreach and communication strategy.
Awareness and understanding of gender issues.
Excellent writing skills and fluent in English and Urdu.
Proficient in MS Office applications.


Responding to the prevailing gender inequalities in the society, the Government of Pakistan has taken several important initiatives such as National Strategic Framework for Family Protection, Gender Reform Act Plan (GRAP), National Policy on Development and Empowerment of Women, National Programme for Women’s Political Participation and most recently the Women Protection Bill.
UNDP Pakistan’s Gender Support Programme (GSP) is the largest network of gender programmes operating since 2003 committed to promote gender justice in Pakistan. The Gender Justice and Protection (GJP) Project is a key initiative of GSP with the aim to contribute towards sustainable reduction in Violence against Women (VAW) in accordance with the government’s policy commitments.  The project is funded by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The project supports initiatives at community, organizational and policy level to reduce violence against women in Pakistan.
Duties  and Responsibilities:
The Advocacy and Communication Specialist will be responsible for the following:
Prepare Advocacy and Communication strategy for the project and lead its implementation and management
To enhance the marketability of the project by ensuring greater visibility of the project through dissemination of relevant information to the right stakeholders.
To enhance the access of the target population to project services through information sharing and networking.
To provide strategic inputs and manage project’s internal and external communications operations.
To develop effective relations with print and electronic media for managing projects media related activities in an efficient manner including but not limited to organizing meetings with media representatives and with other stakeholder in line with project communications strategy.
To organize media events such as: press conferences, interviews of key project staff and stakeholders on public & private channels of TV & radio, newspapers, magazines, and journals, etc.
To plan creative media activities to capitalize on important occasions e.g., international women day, mother day etc. Arrange visits of media groups to important sites where GJP has accomplished results  
To design, print and disseminate IEC material, publications, multimedia and/ or web-based information, and provide quality control in line with the project’s communication strategy
To modify the annual reports of the project from a standard format into media and user friendly formats which can be shared with multiple stakeholders
To keep updated all relevant information on the project website including the web forum and ensure that all project related activities are projected on the website.
To set up a library (virtual / physical) with a collection of representative pictures, videos etc of GJP’s work
To guide and support the GJP funded sub-projects for their advocacy and awareness raising components in line with overall policies of the project
To establish a network of all advocacy / communication focal points in the sub-projects and put a system in place for regular information sharing with regard to media activities, achievement of results, lessons learnt and best practices
To keep close liaison with the UNDP media / communication focal point
To perform any other duties as required by the project management in line with the project goals.
The Advocacy and Communications Expert will report to National Project Manager, GJP.
