The Gender & Social Sector Specialist will closely work with local communities, Line Departments and NGOs and will spend 50% of his/her time in the field. Special requirements of the position are as follows:

At least 10 years experience (for Masters Degree holders) and 6 years (Ph. D) in the design and Implementation of community based projects which have women as a key target group.

At least 5 yeas practical experience in community mobilization and gender mainstreaming

Excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills.

Familiarity with local languages and custom and traditions will be an advantage.

Description:
 

Under the overall direction of National Programme Director and direct supervision of the National Programme Coordinator, the Gender and Social Sector Specialist shall:

Formulate Community mobilization and GAD strategies for involvement of women in the project activities and local development management.

Facilitate training to programme staff, GoB counterparts and members of the communities in areas related to social mobilization and gender development.

Identify gender issues that arise from the appraisal and subsequent development proposals and modifications in cooperation with specialists and GoB counter parts.

Prepare/ propose interventions in communities to overcome gender imbalances of biases and ensure all other development interventions / packages are free of gender imbalances.

Provide guidance and advice to ensure that solutions are beneficial to men and women alike and suitable for both.

Assist in the organization of the participatory appraisal of village communities and preparation rolling work plan.

Assist in the selection and training of social mobilizers.

Conduct advocacy with the GoB for initiatives in the areas of concern highlighted in national Plan of Action for women and CEDAW.

Plan intervention consistent with the GoP Gender Policy 200- Women Empowerment for Equality.

Supervise / oversee the work of Community Development Specialists vis a vis formation and functioning of community organizations.

Document outcome /impact of programme interventions.

Undertake and other relevant duties as may be assigned by National Programme Coordinator /UNDP.
