Masters degree preferably in social sciences from a recognized university.
At least 7 years of relevant experience.
Excellent management, administrative and organizational skills.
Excellent English writing, communication and computer (MS Office) skills.
Proven research background including the ability to meet deadlines and work accurately.
Experience with the UN or international organizations will be preferred.
Sound knowledge of gender issues.



The Gender Support Programme is a UNDP and donor-funded programme. It aims at strengthening national capacity to address gender issues and gender disparities in Pakistani society, based on themes such as Social, Political, and Economic empowerment of women and institutional capacity building. The goal of the Gender Support Programme is to eradicate poverty in Pakistan through gender-responsive governance and a rights-based approach to sustainable human development. The Gender Support Program assists in policy analysis, coordination, implementation and monitoring, capacity development, research and documentation and awareness-raising.  The formulation of policy concept notes and designing training modules for respective line ministries will be considered as key activities.
Duties  and Responsibilities:
Responsible to the Programme Coordinator, the Research Specialist will undertake the following duties:
Policy Research:
• Develop and guide research activities in the three components of GSP by providing substantive inputs which would enrich their research and help the project management to advocate for gender concerns to be addressed at the policy level.
• Contribute towards the conceptualization of the research design, questions and methodology.
• Collect and analyze relevant data and present it in the form of issue briefs, and policy papers in consultation with UNDP and projects.
• With a view to creatively enhance GSP, identify resources and areas of potential research cooperation.
• Conduct literature researches to feed into speeches of UNDP personnel.
Knowledge Management:
• Conduct impact assessment and supervise documentation of success stories of GSP etc.
• Guide the projects on effective documentation and projection of their work so that it is user friendly and useful for the stakeholders.
• Act as the focal point for developing networks with experts, institutions on research addressing the gender poverty nexuses.
• Be the Focal Person for providing inputs for UNDP Poverty Reduction & Gender Unit website.
• Ensure knowledge management of all key documentation is electronically available to all stakeholders.
• Carry out any other assignment as may be required under the programme.
• Prepare the Semi Annual and the Standard Annual progress Report of the Gender Support Programme capturing impact nationally, lessons learnt and gaps and challenges being faced.
• Coordinate the preparation of all project reports. Guide staff and executing partners in preparing their progress reports in accordance with approved reporting formats and ensure their timely submission. This includes quarterly progress reports, annual project report, inception report, and ad-hoc technical reports.
• Prepare consolidated progress reports for project management including identification of problems, causes of potential bottlenecks in project implementation, and providing specific recommendations.
Monitoring and Progress Controls:
• Submit Quarterly and Annual Work Plans and quarterly and annual progress
• reports on work plans.
• Develop Original publications.
• Develop and implement or coordinate a variety of research activities for the project, providing technical expertise on research.
• H/she will report to the GSP Programme Coordinator.
