The Strategic Management Unit (SMU) is responsible for monitoring and evaluation of UNDP’s work in Pakistan and handling all internal and external communications and outreach for the organization. SMU also maintains UNDP Pakistan’s web site and facilitates knowledge building and knowledge sharing. SMU regularly provides analysis to UNDP Programme Division Managers on progress, issues and risks of their interventions. Annual audits and evaluations are also conducted by SMU. SMU monitoring and evaluation staff works on the ground on a quarterly basis and on an as needed basis with UNDP Projects.


Working under the supervision of the Chief, Strategic Management Unit, the Young Professional Officer will provide core professional assistance and support to the Unit Chief, Communications and Programme management teams.

More specifically, the responsibilities include:

Facilitate the Unit to undertake effective programme monitoring and management, monitoring and evaluation activities and initiatives at the country office level.

Support the communications team in implementation of UNDP Communications strategy including media kits, donor briefs, human interest stories, website content etc.

Assist in developing and implementing activities and programmes to promote public awareness/knowledge of and access to UNDP’s services, information and materials.

Assist in organizing and coordinating press conferences, press launches, field visits, interviews, and media briefings for Country Director and other staff; manage media campaigns and events related to all relevant UNDP activities; prepare press kits for use by staff and media.

Assist in coordination of programme-related knowledge management, including the archiving of mandatory programme documents, planning and monitoring knowledge products and facilitating contributions to knowledge networks at the organization and country office level.

Ensure regular follow-up to Results Management Guide, CEDAR, HACT and other programme & project management guidelines at the CO and project level.

Assist in identification and documentation of best practices and synergies in the field; coordination of responses to general HQ surveys and other corporate deadlines related to programme.

Undertake regular monitoring and follow up on Programme Portfolio Pipeline and Project Tree in Atlas. Entry of data of new grants into Atlas in the form of Annual Work Plans (AWPs), monitoring of AWPs status.

Keeps a proper record of all cost sharing and trust fund agreements signed & budget revisions processed.

Organizing training for the Operations/Project/Programme Staff on Results Based Management, Atlas External Access etc.

Undertake preparation of documents and correspondences related to the overall programme for sharing with donors and other partners.

Facilitate local and international missions including logistical arrangements.

Draft routine letters, prepare MS PowerPoint presentations, provide inputs to Unit work plan and respond to e-mail communications on a daily basis.
