• Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience, preferably with UN agencies in a similar position;
• Proven research background including the ability to meet deadlines and work accurately.
• Excellent management, administrative and organizational skills;
• Excellent spoken and written English, Communication, and Computer skills.
• Sound understanding and knowledge of the Garments and Textile Sector; knowledge of the Government’s trade policies pertinent to the sector would be an added advantage.
• Sound knowledge of gender issues.
• Proven research background with ability to meet deadlines.
• Hands-on experience with using research methods and research support software, handling statistical databases and developing charts etc.
• Excellent data collection and data analysis skills


GEN-PROM Pakistan, Gender Promotion in Garment/Clothing Industry through Skills Development, is a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) project implemented by private sector partners Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) in Karachi, and Government College University Faisalabad (GC University) in Lahore.

The overall project goal is to reduce poverty and empower female garment workers through skills development and private sector partnerships.

Currently GEN-PROM Sindh is looking for suitable candidates for the Karachi based “Research Officer” (RO) position.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The tasks and responsibilities of the Research Officer Manager would include:

• Take a lead and report on all research and advocacy activities within GRAU (Gen-prom Research and Advocacy Unit) in consultation with all stakeholders and the National Project Manager for gender mainstreaming in the garment/clothing sector;
• Identify areas of potential research cooperation by consulting all stakeholders and project beneficiaries; advocate with and facilitate the research institutions, associations and industry, particularly for conducting social audit studies, writing bilateral trade negotiation papers, and other activities as outlined in the work plan;
• Identify and coordinate the efforts of other organizations working in skills development (preferably for women) and gender mainstreaming in garment/textiles to create synergies among stakeholders and to avoid duplication of efforts;
• Take a lead in designing knowledge products and documenting best practices and success stories of the Gen-Prom project;
• Facilitate the designing, writing, printing/publishing, and disseminating the newsletter and other relevant information and knowledge pertinent to the garment/clothing sector;
• Maintain a database/record of trainees and employment opportunities in the sector, to be published in the Gen-Prom Opportunities bulletin.
• Compile and distribute Gen-Prom Opportunities bulletin to relevant stakeholders and particularly to textile associations countrywide;
• Ensure proper management of all relevant key knowledge documents produced by international and national research and policy institutions;
• Facilitate in preparing quarterly and annual progress reports;
• Arrange meetings, internal and external, and perform liaison duties with other units;
• Work closely with the research officer based in the Punjab PMU;
• Perform other duties as and when required.
