3 years of professional radio communication (telex, facsimile and radio operations) experience;
Good typing skills and knowledge of computer applications;
Proficiency in English language.


Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of UNDSS Senior Staff and Communications Manager (when available), the radio room supervisor has responsibility for the following:
Duties and responsibilities:
1.       Directly supervise radio room staff.
2.       Liaise with UN interagency radio rooms and maintain contact information databases such as call signs, sel-calls and telephone numbers.
3.       Assess status of the UN Common radio room and recommend upgrades to enhance MOSS/MISTS compliance.
4.       Monitor & track United Nations mission and convoy movement in and across the borders, maintain the mission movement record and inform the UN-DSS Office and/or concerned UN offices of any abnormal incident with all details, through all possible communication means.
5.       Maintain updated lists of all concerned Sel-Calls/ Telephone/Cell-Phone/Email keep all the communication system in good working condition at all time and report any fault immediately.
6.       Coordinate and manage the duty staff roster for all Radio Operators under his control. Coordinate the leave roster for radio operators.
7.       Act as the focal point fort the coordination of administrative matters relating to radio operators and the smooth functioning of the radio room and reporting to UNDSS HQ Islamabad.
8.       Supervise radio staff in maintaining permanent radio contact with all stations and vehicles in the United Nations radio networks. Guarantee efficient communications and information flow for all involved units and Agencies.
9.       Supervise radio staff to ensure appropriate communication links are maintained with all UN and NGO regional networks.
10.   Supervise radio Staff to ensure an exact log for all communication is recorded and dispatched without delay to the receiving Officer/Unit.
11.   Supervise radio staff to ensure strict confidentiality of all relevant messages sent and received through the radio room communications system.
12.   Supervise radio staff to ensure that all network users are complying with operational radio procedures and maintain discipline on relevant networks.
13.   Advise Communication Officer/FSCOs/SOO immediately on faults in the telecommunication networks and undertake necessary action to provide a prompt reestablishment of service.
14.   Assist in installation and arrangement of equipment and fixtures.
15.   Prepare monthly reports on activities of the unit as required by DSS office/Communication Officer.
16.   Monitor radio calls from other mobile radios and base-stations on the communication network and deliver the information to the concerned offices.
17.   Act as a backup station for the onward transmission of messages from one UN office to other and vice versa.
18.   Act as the focal person on the administrative issues of the radio room with LSA UNDSS.
19.   Develop and maintain the Radio Room Inventory using MS Excel.
20.   Perform other related duties as required by CSA/FSCO/DSS Office.
