Recognizing the need for a comprehensive system for developing, managing and utilizing environmental information for informed decision making, the Ministry of Environment has included “Establishment of Environmental Information Management System” as a key component of National Environmental Action Plan Support Programme (NEAP-SP) which is being implemented with the assistance of UNDP and donor agencies to support realization of the National Environmental Action Plan (NEAP). The project has been designed to address issues relating to availability of timely and accurate environmental information in Pakistan. The NEIMS when implemented will facilitate informed decision making Environmental Management Information System for different areas of environment. EMIS will be a very powerful resource in planning different development projects of Pakistan and will provide help to different departments including Forests, Agriculture, Communication, Climate, Town Planning, and Industries etc.
Web based EIMS application will develop to provide useful information for planners and researchers in the Environmental & other related field.
Scope of work:
The Environmental Associate will be responsible for implementing the Environmental Indicator Framework of NEIMS, including all necessary consultations and investigations, and resulting in an annotated set of Indicators ready for incorporation (by the Technical Framework specialists) into NEIMS. The Associate will work under the overall supervision of the National Project Manager of NEIMS. Besides his work include:
Provide help in the design and development of the EIS.
Work with System Analyst to give assistance in the environmental related issues.
Identify and define to environmental related rules and find out dataset related to environment.
Gather environment related data from different sources related to environment.
To collect and analyze baseline data (e.g. document the incidence and existing levels of environmental, economic, and social needs among the selected areas and communities)
To prepare a strategic plan outlining goals, outcomes and interventions for environmental information management system
To propose potential responses to the identified needs and outline their estimated costs (including TORs for possible project formulation).
