Under the guidance and the direct supervision of the Country Director, the Media Analyst will be responsible for projecting effectively the work of UNDP in media (print, electronic and web). UNDP in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan is actively pursuing various development initiatives to benefit the people of Pakistan. These initiatives are broad in scope and cover many important issues. However, the visibility of these activities remains limited as majority of the population remains unaware of the work being accomplished by the projects/programmes supported by UNDP. In line with the evolving organizational perspective, effective presence in media is also critical for building stronger partnerships to support the corporate products and services along with mobilization of financial resources.
Provides support to the planning and design of internal and external strategies for communications and outreach focusing on achievement of the following results:
Conduct of communications needs assessments for CO (projects, country programme and corporate change initiatives, etc)
Analysis of requirements and synthesis of proposals for elaboration of the CO communications and outreach strategy based on the corporate communications strategy.
Development/production of communication and advocacy instruments and materials for marketing and awareness-raising campaigns, including briefing materials and press releases in coordination with the supervisor.
Synthesis of proposals for project formulations to integrate advocacy and communication strategies into all aspects of UNDP’s development programme.
Review projects/programmes from a media and advocacy perspective and develop media strategies in consultation with the National Project Directors and project staff. Support the project/programmes in implementing their media strategies.
Liaise with project staff and country office staff to develop partnership with individuals, groups and organizations whose support is necessary for achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
Participate actively in the media focal points knowledge networks. Fully understand corporate guidelines on public information and disseminate the information to office staff in an effective manner.
Participate in the Inter Agency media/advocacy activities and ensure UNDP’s proactive support to the RC functions related to the media and advocacy.
Cultivate a strong working relationship with a wide range of media organizations (local and foreign newspapers, radio, TV networks, web portals etc.) to ensure timely effective coverage of UNDP events.
Plan creative media activities to capitalize on the important occasions e.g. UN special days, conferences, workshops, seminars etc. Arrange visits of media groups to important sites where UNDP had accomplished results.
Synthesize results of UNDP’s work to make it understandable to senior policy makers and common people. Translate these results into media friendly information and project it through appropriate channels.
Undertake assessment of media/advocacy activities and advise the staff concerned to improve.
Ensures the implementation of the CO publications strategy and plan focusing on the achievement of the following results:
Effective implementation of the CO publications strategy and plan.
Management of some CO publication activities, such as drafting articles, content management, norms for publishing, design, maintenance of regular contact with printers and other suppliers to ensure production and publications dissemination.
Provides support to the maintenance of the UNDP web site, intranet, CO web-based knowledge management system focusing on achievement of the following results:
Management of the office web sites based on corporate requirements in cooperation with the ICT staff.
Preparation of the content for the web sites to ensure consistency of the materials.
Supports the business development focusing on achievement of the following results:
Launches and campaigns
Promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications such as the Human Development Report.
Promotion and maintenance of public information campaigns on UNDP activities, results of MDGs, UN Reform, under the supervision of Communications Specialist.
Development of effective tools/job aids for media coverage
Establish a network of all media/communication focal points from projects/programmes and put a system in place for regular information sharing with regard to media activities.
Prepare a comprehensive list of all media options in Pakistan with details on profile and contacts information.
Establish a user-friendly tracking system to record electronically UNDP presence in media. Put in place an archiving system/preferably accessible through UNDP website.
Set up a photo library with a collection of representative pictures of UNDP’s work.
Preparation and dissemination of newsletter to donors, donor reports, civic education and community awareness, where appropriate, to support projects
Timely and effective responses to inquiries for public information materials.
Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:
Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to programme country goals and activities.
Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice including corporate communications repositories.
Provision of trainings, UNDP staff on communications for development

Prepare periodic media coverage reports, preferably quarterly, for the senior management.
Share the report in appropriate forum in the office.
