The project ‘Working Towards Achieving the National and International Commitments on Gender and Poverty Issues’ aim is to strengthen the capacity of MOWD develop and implement policies and programme on women empowerment and institute a system of monitoring in compliance with international and national commitments.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Capacity building of the MOWD so that it is effectively able to portray the work of MOWD and the impact of its programmes and projects.
2. To work with Government, Academic institutions, and NGOs to identify, develop, implement, disseminate and monitor appropriate approaches to changing and maintaining behaviors related to gender issues.
3. To work with Government, Academic institutions, and NGOs in developing peer education & out reach strategies
4. Develop/implement training in interpersonal communication for various levels of staff of Government, Academic institutions, and NGOs.
5. To document and disseminate findings of communication evaluations
6. Work towards mobilizing a committee to assess and analyze the development of the suggested guidelines for the portrayal of women and men as equal partners in the development process.
7. Mobilize training for women in all media through media departments in universities and establish a media academy and remove gender bias in all programme.
8. Assist media departments of universities to expand their education and training courses and bring them more in line with new needs
9. Arrange briefings on effective use of media guidelines for media professionals and disseminate reports and recommendations of media watch group
10. Develop guidelines for media decision makers and midlevel professionals on how to enhance the role of media as a means of IEC on women’s issues.
11. Plan, monitor, and evaluate communication strategies on gender issues formulated by the Government.
12. Undertake routine duties such as contribution to reports and newsletters, organizing seminars/conference on gender & media issues, representing MOWD/UNDP in national and international events and making presentations, networking, liaising with and consulting national and international partners, and so on.
13. To keep a close liason with journalists etc.
14. To carry out any other duties assigned by the Advisor to the Prime Minister in charge, Secretary and /or Additional Secretary, MOWD.
Policy level:
15. Review and revise existing policy on state-controlled media with a view to promoting partnership with NGOs/CBOs under new guidelines
16. Assist MOWD In formulation of policy guidelines for women and media
17. Conduct qualitative research and apply data from formative research to the development and implementation of communication strategies
18. To carry out any other duties assigned by the Advisor to the Prime Minister/Minister incharge, Secretary and/or Additional Secretary, MOWD
