A minimum of 5 years of preferably military or civilian security experience with demonstrated capabilities in security risk assessment, planning, organizing, and at least two years of which were at a security management level. Experience in administration, particularly with strong information technology skills will also be considered. Experience in UN operations is desirable.
Competencies/Skills etc.
Knowledge of the UN system is desirable and familiarity with UNDP procedures is, in particular, highly desirable;
A solid understanding of security management, including security risk assessments at a national level, contingency planning and crisis management;
Proven team building and leadership skills;
Strong analytical ability;
Understanding of the principle of national ownership and integrity in development co-operation;
Computer literacy, in particular, have experience of using MS Office.


Under the immediate supervision of the Deputy Resident Representative (Operations) (and Country Security Focal Point), the Security Associate will provide assistance in the implementation of the security plan and all matters relating to safety and security management for the UNDP Country Office and associated programmes.

He/she will perform the following duties and responsibilities.

Provide assistance in the conduct and follow up of investigation and reports on the security related incidents affecting UNDP staff and offices and maintain an accurate and detailed record of all security incidents occurring including vehicle accidents.

Assist in the preparation of security reports (Security Incidents, Security Assessments and Quarterly Incident Reports).

Maintain close contact and liaise with UNDSS, host government agencies and other UN offices to obtain the latest information regarding the security situation in the country and advise the DRR (O) on latest trends and threats to staff safety and security.

Assist in the preparation and maintainance of the UNDP in country security plan in accordance with the guidelines contained in the UN Field Security Handbook including updating national and international staff list.

Assist in the maintenance and monitoring of MOSS (Minimum Operational security standards) compliance on equipment and other areas. Ensure that all field missions and the Country Office or sub-offices are MOSS and/or Country MOSS compliant.

Assist the UNDP DRR (O) and UNDP DRR (P) in analyzing security matters, and the level of risks related to UNDP Programme and Project design and implementation and evaluation. Coordination with project personnel is paramount.

Maintain list of essential staff and equipment.
Assist in the management of the UNDP’s Avian Influenza contingency plan and equipment.

Represent UNDP at UN security meetings when required.
Provide support in organizing and conducting training courses on security issues/awareness and preparedness that include newly assigned staff members and refresher training for other personnel.
Assist in undertaking periodic security assessments of the regions where UNDP has sub-offices or project offices as necessary.

Assists NEX and DEX service contract holders in maintaining their security in respect of coordination of data collection concerning personnel, assets and information communication technology matters.

Manage the national warden system for all national UNDP personnel

Perform other duties as may be assigned by the UNDP DRR (O).

Fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
