1. Background

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck South Asia on 8 October 2005 has caused massive disruption to public infrastructure and houses in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the North West Frontier Province. In response, UNDP/UNV has prepared a project titled “Support to Volunteerism Initiatives in Pakistan” and one of the activities of the project is to assist the National Volunteer Movement (NVM) established by the Government of Pakistan.

2. Reporting

Media and Advocacy Manager will report directly to the Deputy Chairman, NVM

3. Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chairman NVM the major responsibilities of Media and Advocacy Manager are:

• Serve as an internal reporter of NVM, who is physically present at all the events
• Write short stories, reports and Press releases both in English and Urdu about NVM activities
• Field trips to areas where NVM is actively involved to get the first hand knowledge for reporting purposes
• Build network with Electronic and print Media for promoting NVM Activities
• Facilitate in organizing conferences and seminars in different parts of the Pakistan
• Develop promotional material in Urdu, Punjabi, Pushto, Balochi and Sindhi for widespread dissemination of project activities and volunteer recruitment.
• Develop and implement a communications strategy to achieve an informed public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the National Volunteer Movement.
• Serve as lead spokesperson for the public information program.
• Provide technical and policy advice on highly complex public information and communications issues; develop and disseminate best practices.
• Oversee the preparation of reports and other written material. Conduct sensitive political liaison work; create and maintain networks of high level communications contacts with broadcast media, the press, governmental agencies, international institutions and other civil society organizations (non-governmental organizations, businesses, community organizations, women's groups, etc.).
• Organizes and prepares written outputs, like background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies.
• Publish NVM’s quarterly Magazine and monthly newsletter.
• Assist in identifying and obtaining feature stories from ongoing NVM projects to facilitate advocacy activities.
• Identify the areas of opportunities and develop appropriate Advocacy Media Campaign
• Act as focal contact person for all the departments of NVM for media related issues.
