In depth knowledge of drugs abuse and HIV/AIDS at global, regional and country level. More than 5 years experience in programme/project designing, development and supervising interventions related to prevention of HIV among intravenous drug users. Ten to 15 years experience of working in drug demand reduction and HIV/AIDS prevention. Minimum of ten years experience of working within UN system or international agencies in the area of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS prevention. Strong research methodology and M & E skills preferred. Ability to work with Government, NGO and other counterparts is essential.


Maintain dialogue between UNODC and key stakeholders, including the relevant government entities such as National HIV/AIDS Control Programme, on policies and issues related to interventions for reducing the risk of spread of HIV/AIDS among intravenous drug users (IDUs);

Promote development of an integrated government strategy on a comprehensive approach towards intravenous drug use;

Take action with the media and other stakeholders, such as civil society organizations, to publicize best practices on IDUs interventions;

Design, coordinate and monitor new assessments, research and studies on trends and patterns of HIV/AIDS among IDUs in Pakistan;

Participate and provide substantive inputs to national, regional and international meetings/workshops/programmes on HIV/AIDS prevention, specifically IDUs interventions;

Develop new UNODC initiatives related to prevention of HIV/AIDS among intravenous drug users, their families and partners;

Participate in UN Theme Group and Technical working group meetings on HIV/AIDS;

Participate in meetings/workshops on prevention of HIV/AIDS organized by sister UN agencies, National and Provincial HIV/AIDS control programmes;

Review applications from the NGO community for funding grants. Monitor the implementation of activities funded by these grants and ensure the submission of interim (as appropriate) and final reports on the project activities funded by UNODC;

Prepare correspondence and reports, related to HIV/AIDS and intravenous drug use, as assigned by the UNODC Representative;

Fulfill any other duties as assigned by the UNODC Representative.
