Experience:

5 or 6 years of experience is required. Some professional work experience, in the fields of data collection and/or development will be considered as an added asset, but is not essential. Experience in a multinational environment would be an asset. Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English, with good analytical and communication skills. Proficiency in the use of information technology (word processing, PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets and data management), while being well conversant with the internet/intranet environment.
An ability to work harmoniously and effectively as part of a well-coordinated team with people of varied backgrounds, including gender sensitivity.

Description:
 

BACKGROUND:

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UN Coordination Specialist or UN Coordination Analyst and direct supervisor, the UN Coordination Associate provides assistance to the execution of services in the UN Coordination Unit by managing data and providing support to UN activities implementation. The UN Coordination Associate promotes a client-oriented approach.

The candidate selected will work within the Office of the Resident Coordinator, reporting to several professional staff in the Inter-Agency Support Unit, and ultimately to the RC himself. Although the work will include, it also entails substantial independent work, devising schedules, and attending to budgetary and logistical arrangements. The work also involves finalization of documents for circulation and/or publication. There is substantial personal liaison with senior UN agency, Government and donor agency personnel.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

Participate in Heads of Agencies, Inter-Agency Thematic working groups, Core Committees, UN-GoP and Donor meetings, workshops and retreats, providing substantive support by preparing agenda, working papers & minutes, and follow-up regarding implementation of decisions;

Initiate, monitor and maintain RC Budget in ATLAS and its conformity to RC Annual Work plan.  Verify availability of funds for project activities, process transactions in ATLAS and generate financial reports on need basis.

Assist UN Coordination Associate/UNCT in the planning, coordination and preparation of UN Reform instruments like the Common Country Assessment (CCA), United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), Results Matrix, Joint Strategy Meeting and Resident Coordinator’s Annual Report for Pakistan;

Design and produce workshop/retreat reports, disseminate to concerned organizations and also publish/update on the UN System website;

Coordinate and facilitate the visits and meetings of Heads/senior officials of UN/non-resident agencies/programmes and preparation of background material;

Provide support to UN Resident Coordinator (RC) in promoting an effective dialogue and facilitate increased communication between the RC and UNCT;

Assist UN Coordination Officer/UNCT in the preparation, monitoring and maintenance of RC annual work plan;

Provide support to UNRC and UNCT in setting up of meetings & necessary follow-up. Devising a monthly “schedule of inter-agency events” ;

Promote advocacy of UN activities & International Days commemoration/observances by closely coordinating with UN Information Centre (UNIC);

Monitor, follow-up and provide assistance to inter-agency working groups and committees
