Duties and responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the National Project Director and direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator, the Agriculture Production Specialist will:
Work with the local communities and identify areas of interventions for agriculture productivity in the programme villages/valleys.
Introduce high yielding varieties of crops, fruits and vegetables suitable for different program villages and valleys.
Develop high quality “seed villages” for multiplication/promotion of quality seeds in the programme areas by establishing seed multiplication plots on scientific lines.
Plan appropriate interventions to attain sustainable livelihoods, specifically related to horticulture production and post-harvest management including marketing.
Support and train, men/women in the community and counterpart staff of the GoB in improved agriculture production & value added processing of Agriculture produce.
Pay special attention to the management and utilisation of water supplies, in close coordination with the water sector specialist, to ensure that supplies of potable water remain available for communities and that effective agricultural production is achieved without a negative impact on the community or the environment.
Train local communities in proper storage of agriculture produce to minimize post harvest losses.
Carry out any other relevant task as may be assigned by the Programme Coordinator or the National Project Director.
